Artist Statement

I am particularly drawn to places where the geology is evident, marking the layers of time and history. I have been portraying both the monumental and the intimate for a long time. In the past, I have referred to it as “the macro and the micro.” In this body of work, the vast lay of the land, the flow of rivers, the rush of the sea and the stones that surface become my focus. The swirling designs of topographical maps and the smooth and rough textures of stones motivate my hand.

The prints are built of monotypes, etchings, chine colle, and in some instances, watercolor. I like to combine media to take advantage of what the different techniques have to offer. Fine detail and line work of an etching can be printed over underlying monotypes. The images are created to evoke careful observation of a multi-faceted environment.
