Hand papermaking and printmaking workshops

Tuesday & Wednesday, August 17 -18
from 10:00 am to 2:00 p.m., at the Phoenix Rising Printmaking Cooperative studio, Columbus, Ohio
Saturday & Sunday, August 21-22
from 10:00 am to 2:00 p.m., at the Cross Family Studios, Hilliard, Ohio

Day 1 will cover sheet formation including embedding, painting and printing on fresh paper. Day 2 will cover basic printmaking techniques as well as image transfer options. These workshops are designed to accommodate any skill level. Participant age: 14 and up

Solarplate Etching: 2 Day Workshop
Saturday, May 8 & May 15, 2010
from 10:00 am to 1:00 p.m., with Anne Cushman at the McConnell Arts Center, 777 Evening Street, Worthington, Ohio 43082.
Create prints by using a transparency as a positive and exposing the plate to light. Images may be created using a drawing, computer printout or found objects.
No experience required. $60

Solarplate Etching: 2-day workshop
15 years - Adult
Learn an innovative and non-toxic printmaking process. Create prints by using a transparency as a positive and exposing the plate to light. Images may be created using a drawing, computer printout or found objects.
No experience required. $60
Saturday March 6: 10am - 11:30am & Saturday March 13: 10am - 1pm

Watercolor Monoprints: 1-day workshop

original photo and final monoprint
15 years - Adult
Turn a favorite photo into an original work of art. Students will create one or more monoprint by using crayon and watercolor on prepared Plexiglas. No experience required. $45
Saturday, March 20: 10am - 1pm
Supplies to bring: 8.5" x 11" photo or drawing or you may work from your imagination

Cut-Away Relief Prints: 1-day workshop
Family Workshop: 9 - 12 years with Adult Phoenix Rising Instructors
Learn how to make relief prints with a multi-step process made famous by Pablo Picasso. Create simple drawings and designs and use them in creating relief prints using water-based inks. No experience required. $45

Takbon Prints
Family workshop: 9 - 12 years with Adult Phoenix Rising Instructor
Explore this unique Korean printmaking process used to record and preserve patterns and designs of found objects. This method uses an ink bundle or mungchi and a concave or convex relief surface of an object to transfer texture. No experience required. $35

Phoenix Rising Printmaking Cooperative Artist Members schedule various workshops throughout the year or by appointment. Our printmaking workshops can be enjoyed by persons at any creative skill level. Call for group rates. The workshops offered are inspiring and fun activities for small groups and organizations. Space is limited to 8 persons. Youth are welcome. Adult chaperones are required to be present at the studio while youth are participating in our workshops. Simple Relief Prints
We will research Renaissance images and use them as inspiration for relief prints made with "Foamies". This is easy to do and requires no tools other than scissors or Xacto knives.
3 hour session
Back to Basics: Elements of Etching
Explore the fundamentals of intaglio printmaking. Using hard and soft grounds and aquatint, we will create an etched image on a 3.5"x5" zinc plate, followed by learning the intaglio inking process. This is a 3-session workshop.

Colorful Collagraphs
Sandpaper printing plates in combination with collage materials will be used to produce abstract plates that will create multicolor designs. Transparent inks will overlap in printing to create dazzling color effects. Be prepared for messy work with surprising results. Bring an old shirt, a pair of household rubber gloves and a mind open to colorful surprises.
3 hour session
Watercolor Monoprints (teens and up)
This is an easy introduction to printmaking. Participants will produce one or more monoprints by painting on prepared plexiglass. Bring an 8x10 photo or drawing to trace or work from your imagination. No experience required.
2.5 hour session
Solarplate Etching
An innovative process in printmaking, transparencies are used as a positive and exposed to the sun or artificial U.V. light to make the plate. Artwork may be created by drawing, computer printout, opaque ink or paint, found objects, etc. Participants are encouraged to bring a design on a transparency or acetate to fit a 4"x5" plate.
2.5 hour session
Elegant Embossing
Try a simple method for creating beautiful embossings. A great way to make custom stationery, invitations, holiday cards, etc. Clean fun (no ink)!
2.5 hour session
Picasso for a Day, A Learning Together Workshop
(intended for children age 9 or older & an adult companion)
Learn how to relief prints based on your own simple drawings or designs using water based inks and styrofoam plates. This workshop teaches youngsters and oldsters the multistep process made famous by Pablo Picasso. Participants will create and take home four copies of their frame worthy prints.
